Abstract
This paper studies the approaches on linguistic variation for dubbed audiovisual products. The main focus will be put on the cases where the original accent is significant for the plot or has been made explicit. A corpus about this phenomenon has been compiled and afterwards publications on translation and dialect have been analysed. The literature review reveals that the translation modalities in which dialects appear more often are literary and audiovisual translation. There are some proposals to solve the problem; however, most of them lack empiric validation and in the few existing case studies the corpus is very limited and therefore the conclusions that may be drawn are not conclusive. It is thus necessary to carry out a corpusbased approach as well as studying the direct allusions to dialects, which is a phenomenon that, despite being frequent, has not been analysed.
