Abstract
El Berrocal of Ortigosa del Monte (Segovia) constitutes an outcrop of plutonic rocks with an area of 2.5 km2. There is it possible to find countless marks of extractive activity in all its extension. Petrologically, the rock of El Berrocal shows a low lithological variability, being classified according to their chemical composition as Granites (Granites-Adame- llites). The samples studied are light gray (orange on altered surfaces) and heterogranular and hypidiomorphic texture, with medium-coarse crystal size (from 5 to 9 mm). Occasionally, these rocks can show porphyry textures with large phenocrystals of K-feldspar up to 3 cm in length. A mesoscale, there are disperse xenoliths, up to 10 cm in diameter, as well as biotitic aggregates and aplite veins. This paper presents a comparative study between the geochemical composition of El Berrocal samples and the existing bibliographic data of the chemical composition of the ashlars of the roman aqueduct. The results verify the geochemical compatibility between the rocks from the quarry and the aqueduct. However, all these correlations should be corroborated with future analysis.
