Abstract

An own methodology is presented for the location and study of the historical quarries associated with the monu- mental architectural heritage, which will be systematically applied throughout the national territory and, specifically, in Andalusia. The creation of a specific protection figure for historical quarries is also proposed to facilitate its durability and the possibility of having the original material in those interventions that demand it. The Junta de Andalucía and the IGME sign an Agreement to develop the Inventory of Historic Quarries associated with the Architectural Heritage of Andalusia in 2018. Field campaigns took place between July 22 and October 16, 2019, in 55 villages and municipalities in the north of the pro- vinces of Huelva, Seville, Jaen and Granada. 216 monuments have been studied, located 142 quarries or historical extractive areas (three of them in the province of Murcia) and collected 152 rock samples, both monuments and quarries, plus 64 for the lapidary.
