Resumo

The location and characterization of the Historic Quarries associated with the Architectural Heritage, within the INCHaPA project of the Geological Survey of Spain, allows its use in the framework of the development of tourism initiatives in rural towns. It increases the leisure offer, allows the enjoyment of Nature and provides knowledge of the geology of the environment. In recent years, the commissioning of “A Ruta das Canteiras” in the town of San Ciprian (Cervo, Lugo, Gali- cia) represents the recognition of historical stonework activities and the use of rocks in the construction of monuments and other buildings. The incorporation of a novel element in the tourist offer of the town, allows combining in this way cultural, sports, tourism and environmental aspects, and the best conservation of these unique spaces, of the history of the stonework and the techniques of extraction of building materials.
