Abstract

The role of context is crucial when considering an expression as polite or impolite. Many authors consider that there are no inherently polite expressions but it is the context which matters. We also have to take into account the cultural context if we want to propose a descriptive theory of impoliteness- in case that can be done at all. On the other side, in today’s globalized world it is essential for expanding companies to have some knowledge of the different cultural realities they want to deal with. At workplace, impoliteness can arise in many different situations such as, dismissal notices, bulling, colleagues striving to promote in the company, etc. This essay analyses the impoliteness expressions found in films which perform different workplace situations.
