Resumo

Within the framework of the INCHaPA project (National Inventory of Historic Quarries associated with the Archi- tectural Heritage), the rocks used in the construction of the church of San Pedro Apostol of Aceuchal, declared BIC, have been studied. The old historical quarries of extraction have been identified in a rocky extension in the place of “La Pos- trera”, that establishes the northern limit of the locality, denominated locally as “Las Piedras”. Several extraction zones have been differentiated. Probably, at the time of operation of the quarries they were connected, corresponding to a single, or at most, two mining areas. In all cases, exploitation brands consisting mainly in wedges, rubs, and operating banks of different dimensions. It is necessary to emphasize on other localized signs, the presence of stonecutters marks and a date, year 1776, in consonance with the dates of construction of the local church. The area exploited to obtain labrable materials is a medium-fine grain orthogneis, known as “Orthogneis de Aceuchal “. It has a pink colour and gneissic texture with few porphyroclasts of potassium feldspar.
