Abstract

The Department of Ciencias de la Tierra y del Medio Ambiente of the Alicante University is carrying out an intensive outreach campaign of Geology (Geolodía, Geoyincana, Olympiad, Web GeoAlicante, outreach publications, courses and talks, among others). The favourable reception of some of these projects is related with a strategy based on a strong collaboration with the teachers of highschool and other professional geologists of the province, the support to museums and local associations of mineralogy and paleontology, and the collaboration with local media. This campaign is producing some positive results as a higher “visibility” of Geology, an increasing of interest among the administrations on points of geological interest, and a better consideration of Geology in the preuniversitary education
