Abstract

Empirical social research focuses on gender and impoverishment started to the late 80s. To the present there have been many contributions to the construction of systems of indicators that were sensitive to the relationship between gender and poverty. However, the academic discussion of its epistemological basis as empirical approaches remains. This article discusses the construction of studies on "gender and poverty" based on the "feminization of poverty" to review and compare the contributions of two international Institutions on indicator systems. The article concludes with a proposal on the necessary scientific interdisciplinary and revision of the "indicators" as universal variables applicable in any context or social system.
