Abstract
Teacher training in Spanish as a Second Language offered in the university field must assume the current intercultural situation reflected in primary and secondary school and, in general, in our society through specific educational subjects dealing with this issue. In this article, starting from the distinction between initial, permanent and specialized teacher training, we focus on the first one, showing up to what extent the syllabus reflect the concern to train future teachers able to succesfully overcome the teaching of a second language. Thus, I present some thoughts about the training that should be offered. Then, I detail what the faculty is really doing in this sense, concerning the curricula both at the graduate and postgraduate studies. Althought the situation can improve, the paper concludes with positive outcomes and suggests some further trends for the future.
