These units are useful both for understanding reality and the functioning of the tourist space as well as for the application and development of policies and programs in the field of tourism planning and promotion. The differentiation of spatial units represents an instrument for analysing the tourist reality and the designing of a tourist policy adapted to the different facts and circumstances that occur in each tourist area. Two experiences are selected, relating to the same regional framework of analysis, with the objective of evaluating the advantages and disadvantages that result from each of the applied methods.
