Doctor by the Universitat d'Alacant / Universidad de Alicante with the thesis La semiótica anagramática de Ferdinand de Saussure génesis, crítica y tipología 1997. Supervised by Dr. Ángel Herrero Blanco.

Full Professor in Semiotics of Mass Communication and Transmedia Production & Consumption at the University of Alicante, Spain. Holds a PhD in Spanish Studies and received the PhD Special Award (1998). He has won the Valencia Essay Prize in 2023 with the book Desinformació i poder (València, Alfons el Magnànim, 2023), the Miguel de Unamuno International Essay Prize in 2019 with Magias de la ficción (Spoiler Warning!) (Madrid, Devenir, 2020) and the Ciutat de València International Essay Prize in 2017 with Máscaras de la mentira: el nuevo desorden de la posverdad (Valencia, Pre-Textos, 2018) and Miguel Espinosa International Essay Prize in 2009 with La musa venal: producción y consumo de la cultura industrial (Murcia, Tres Fronteras, 2010). He has published chapters in the volumes The Routledge Companion to Transmedia Studies (Freeman & Rampazzo Gambarato eds., London and New York, Routledge, 2018); Reimagining Communication vol. 3 (Action) (Filimowicz & Tzankova eds., Routledge, 2020); Digital Totalitarianism (in Algorithms and Society Vol I, Michael Filamowicz ed., Routledge, 2022); Open Semiotics (Amir Biglari ed., París, L’Harmattan, in press) and, along with Cande Sánchez y Tatiana Hidalgo, Information Disorder (Michael Filimowicz ed., Algorithms and Society. Vol IX, Routledge, 2023. A former postdoctoral fellowship holder at the University of Bologna (2000), he has conducted teaching visits at the University of Florence (2003), the University of Buenos Aires (2011), the ORT University of Montevideo (2015), the Glasgow Caledonian University (2020) and the Paris-Nanterre University (2024).
