Doctor by the Universitat d'Alacant / Universidad de Alicante with the thesis Efecto de las propiedades físicas del disolvente sobre la distribución de tamaños de gota, el transporte y la señal en espectrometría atómica con nebulización neumática y térmica 1994. Supervised by Dr. Antonio Canals Hernández, Dr. Vicente Hernandis Martínez.

Ph. D. in Chemical Sciences from the University of Alicante (1994). That year, he obtained a contract as Assistant Professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the same University. After a period of postdoctoral training at the Department of Chemical Technology and Materials Science of the Technische Universiteit Delft (The Netherlands, 1997), he obtained a permanent position (2000). He is currently Full Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Alicante. His teaching experience, at all university levels, has been developed in different departments of the Faculties of Science, Health Sciences and Polytechnic School. His mainly research activity is in the field of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry, where he works in three main topics: (1) development and characterisation of instrumentation for Inductively Coupled Plasma techniques (ICP-OES, ICP-MS and MP-OES); (2) fundamental studies and development of methodologies to mitigate matrix effects in ICP-OES, ICP-MS and MP-OES; and, (3) development of methods for bioanalysis, environmental and food analysis. Author of more than a hundred publications, most of them are published in journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports within the first quartile of the field. He is a regular editor of some of the journals with the highest impact index in his field. Since December 2020 he has held the position of Vice-Rector for Research. Previously (2014-2020) he directed the Research Secretariat at the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Knowledge Transfer of the University of Alicante as well as the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Nutrition and Bromatology (2009-2014), of which he was also Secretary (2002-2009).
