Resumen
Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is a condition caused by damage to the peripheral nerves responsible for arm and leg movement.PN can affect autonomic nerves, impair sudomotor function, and cause dryness and cracking of the skin. This article exploresthe use of the electrical properties of the skin to measure electrodermal activity (EDA) and its usefulness in assessing the degreeof PN involvement. An overview of PN and the characteristics of the EDA signal are provided, as well as some electrical modelsused for its measurement. In addition, studies relating EDA to the patient’s level of impairment are reviewed. Finally, the design of an electronic circuit for measuring EDA is presented, with the aim of developing a portable system capable of monitoring inreal time the electrical conductance of the skin on the sole of the foot, facilitating the outpatient follow-up of patients.
