Abstract

This article presents the result of a mixed research with a concurrent approach that simultaneously includes a qualitative analysis based on a multi-sited case study and a quantitative one with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design with explanatory scope. The above is complemented with a review of literature on tourism management models, which serves as a basis to propose a rural tourism management model based on the analysis of the processes of psychological, social, political and economic empowerment in management. of rural tourism in nine indigenous communities of the State of Mexico. To do this, the relationships between the dimensions of empowerment and their impact on rural tourism management are analyzed, since most of the models analyzed are oriented to large tourist centers, they are based on supply and demand, competitiveness and marketing. There are few that have a focus on rural tourism ventures and appropriation by the receiving community. Therefore, with the developed elements, an intervention model is proposed aimed at the empowerment of local actors, with a view to the efficient management of rural tourism in indigenous communities.
