Abstract

The archaeological site of "Las Dunas de Guardamar" is one of the most relevant archaeological in the Western Mediterranean. Located in Guardamar del Segura (Alicante province of the Valencian Community, Spain), it integrates "La Fonteta", one of the best-preserved Phoenician port sites, essential for the study of Ancient Protohistory in the Iberian Southeast, and "La Rábita", the most complete and wellknown ribāṭ from the Caliphate period in the Iberian Peninsula. Under the name "La Rábita Califal de las Dunas", it was declared an “Bien de Interés Cultural” (Spanish legal protection heritage classification), under the category of Archaeological Zone.The heritage value of this complex made the Culture and Heritage DG of the Conselleria of Education, Culture and Sports of the Generalitat Valenciana develop a project for the consolidation and valorisation of the Dunes of Guardamar archaeological zone.This paper aims to make the results of the actions carried out available to the scientific community. Theseactions began to take shape in 2014, and were implemented between 2019 and 2021. The institutional and economic support of the Generalitat Valenciana, Guardamar del Segura city council and the Spanish Government was key for the project’s successful outcome.
