Zusammenfassung

The aim of the study was to compare the short palmar approach (SPA) with the Knifelight device for the surgery of the idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome in 70 women. Data collected preoperatively included demographics, physical examination and electromyography (EM). All the cases were assessed 12 months after surgery and data regarding clinical outcome, physical exam, work reincorporation and complications were recorded. There were no differences between the two study groups as for preoperative data. Clinical outcome and work reincorporation was similar. There was two delayed wound closure ¡n the SPA group, and painful scar was present in one case of each group. In conclusión, the use of the Knifelight device offers no advantage compared with SPA for the treatment of thp carpal tunnel syndrome
