Abstract
The English translations of the Palmerin cycle began to appear in print during the 1580s, starting with the publication of Palmerin of England, whose editio princeps is no longer extant. Although our knowledge of this work’s printed circulation is imperfect, we hope to improve it by analysing some fragments belonging to the second part of Palmerin of England preserved in the binding of a copy of William Vaughan’s The Spirit of Detraction now held at Harvard’s Houghton Library. After considering the textual, typographical and bibliographical evidence contained in these fragments, I conclude that they belong to an edition that remains unrecorded in the standard bibliographies and that must have been printed c. 1611 by Thomas Creede. This discussion is followed by a transcription of the fragments collated against the most relevant textual witnesses available.
