Resum

The EU's 2050 goals of zero net emissions and circularity require establishing baselines on the most direct, most successful and least harmful environmental route to achieve this goal. In the plastics industry, recycling targets and determination of recycled content, along with demand-side quality requirements, are challenged by many barriers. In fact, there are currently several certification schemes that, among others, establish models based on mass balance and traceability, even though a harmonised method of calculating and verifying this content in the EU is required to stipulate the recycled content in a given product. Therefore, in the framework of the PRecycling project execution, a review of the methodologies and best practices used in European countries and industry in order to calculate, verify and report on the recycled plastics content from the toy, textile and household sectors waste is being accomplished. This overall review will allow the identification of gaps in this field which, along with the mapping of waste streams, will enable policy makers to determine and propose the most suitable route using the waste management policy support tool that is being developed in the project
