Abstract

The European Union considers that the mobilisation of private capital is essential to achieve a transition to a more sustainable economic model. For this reason, extensive legislation has been developed to establish common criteria for environmentally sustainable activities, harmonising legislation at European level and facilitating their classification. With the aim of encouraging investment in sustainable products, investor protection has been strengthened through product governance, offering extensive guarantees in the design, issuance, and marketing of the product, ensuring transparency and information, to overcome the traditional reluctance to invest in sustainable products. The regulation foresees that investors will be offered different products with a different degree of environmental protection and, with all the information available, they will be able to select the one that best suits their interests and needs.
