Resumen

The study of an artistic expression such as comics and its role about promoting reading is an element of interest due to the attractive hybridization possibilities concerning a language characterized by its own conventions through which semantic and semiotic components are intersected. A consolidated initiative around this academic studies field being developed by Unicómic, las Jornadas del Cómic de la Universitat d’Alacant, is the elaboration of an artistic and educational canon of thirty capital works because of their literary, historical and cultural value. For this reason, the objective of this research focuses on the presence of these works within the Red de Lectura de la Comunitat Valenciana. The methodology followed by this proposal is based on the quantitative analysis of these works throughout the 102 municipal libraries included in the Red Electrónica de Lectura Pública Valenciana website, differentiating if they are included or not and, if that should be the case, their corresponding amount of copies. The results of this exploratory research show the need for a greater presence of comics in the bibliographic collection of municipal libraries so that comics may get prestige in the public sphere beyond specific initiatives by some libraries through Alicante department.
