Abstract

The co-cathedral of San Nicolás (Alicante) has been taken as a reference in the urbanism of Alicante since its origins. This article will focus on its origins. For many years, historiography has studied the written sources and has defended the existence of a mosque located in the since in the last 25 years the documentation has increased, especially the archaeological, forcing the proposal of new hypothesis. The objective of this article is to revise written, archeological and historiographical sources, with the aim of raising a new hypothesis that will be able to reconcile all the sources so to understand the right origin of the temple.
