La aplicación de la gamificación en la educación está cada vez más generalizada. Sin embargo, los estudios empíricos sobre gamificación y educación física son muy heterogéneos. ¿Qué sabemos hasta ahora de la influencia de la gamificación en la EF? La finalidad era ofrecer un panorama actual sobre los efectos beneficiosos de la gamificación en la EF correspondientes a los diversos niveles educativos. Asimismo, esta revisión pretende analizar las características que tienen en común estas intervenciones. Se identificaron estudios en siete bases de datos: Dialnet, ERIC, Redalyc, EBSCOhost, ProQuest: ERIC, SCOPUS y Web of Science. Se incluyeron 22 estudios: siete cualitativos, siete cuantitativos y ocho de método mixto, en los que participaron 2,095 estudiantes y 12 profesores. El análisis realizado mostró un aumento significativo de la motivación intrínseca y de la satisfacción de todas las necesidades psicológicas básicas y, en consecuencia, del compromiso con la asignatura de educación física, lo cual conlleva una mejora del aprendizaje y del rendimiento académico. También se destacaron los efectos beneficiosos relativos al fomento del trabajo cooperativo y de un ambiente positivo dentro de la clase de educación física.
