The diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer is a stressful event that can cause a deterioration in the relationship. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the factors associated with a good dyadic adjustment given its importance on health and biopsychosocial well-being. Objective: To examine the dyadic adjustment between women with breast cancer and their partners at admission, at three, six and twelve months after breast surgery. Material and method: A descriptive, observational, unicentric longitudinal cut design was proposed for women undergoing breast surgery and their partners, performed in the surgery unit of the University Clinical Hospital of Valencia. Sampling will be accidental convenience, requiring a total of 239 pairs. The data will be collected through self-completed questionnaires for each time of the study. Results: The dyadic adjustment is expected to worsen throughout the study, especially among younger couples, in terms of the time after diagnosis, the duration of the relationship and the quality of life, they are expected to vary depending on the dyadic adjustment. It is expected that the level of stress is greater than the income in couples. According to the perception of the woman about her body image and sexual functioning, a greater deterioration is expected after the mastectomy. Implications for clinical practice: Relevance for the development of nurse intervention plans aimed at satisfying the needs generated in the dyad during the event to achieve effective coping.
