Sharing economy has been experiencing rapid growth in recent years, creating important gross revenue especially in the passenger transport sector. The success of the platforms such as Uber and BlaBlaCar poses nevertheless important challenges for the legislators at both European and national Levels. In this paper I am analyzing the issue of consumer protection in the context of such collaborative transport platforms. In the view of the recent CJEU decisions, I am discussing the legal classification of the platforms, adopting as a starting point the differences between Uber and BlaBlaCar, as it brings about important consequences for the applicability of the consumer protection regime. The need to regulate the shared transport platforms and the future challenges their regulation faces are considered.
