Resumen

This communication introduces two pioneering initiatives in the field of urban planning and housing in the Madrid of the 30s in the context of the new paradigm of tourism and leisure weekend. The first proposal is Camorritos colony, located in the Sierra of Guadarrama, the second one refers to the Ciudad Fin de Semana (Weekend Town), designed by the architect Rafael Hidalgo Caviedes near the Alameda de Osuna. Both initiatives were designed to meet the wishes of an emerging middle class that needed to occupy the leisure hours of the weekend, conceived as new social conquest of new vital parameters of the inhabitants of large cities.
