Abstract

Tourism is conceived a key sector in the framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG´s) and Millennium Development Goals (MDG´s). Both the Agenda 2015 and the Agenda 2030 are still a challenge for institutions that take part in International Development Cooperation (IDC). It is important when choosing the most benefitable options to disadvantaged areas, with the lowest cost to the institutions involved. Tourism seems to be a recent option in the field of IDC with high probability of success given its positive short-medium-long term effects on life conditions of benefited communities. This work analyzes background of IDC and tourism approaches in international projects and initiatives. Findings show the role of tourism in the field of IDC and remark the importance this activity in the development of future CID initiatives to achieve SDG´s in the framework of The Agenda 2030.
