Abstract

Given the cognitive deficiencies of the modern age and its inability to provide praiseworthy examples of sustainability, and in accordance with the new knowledge gained by Flacam regarding environmental projection and landscape envirotecture, this text aims to chart a clear course for the future, which will enable those areas which have been declared biosphere reserves by UNESCO to develop as paradigmatic regions oriented towards the achievement of the much-yearned-for sustainable development. The paper suggests the integration of traditional models of spatial planning with the instruments used by regional systems for maintaining the ecological stability of the landscape, as a possible method for ensuring a functional zoning of biosphere reserves. Great emphasis is placed on tourist use based on environmental education, conceived on the basis of local experiences of sustainable development. The idea is that these areas can use tourist products similar to those employed in successful examples of local sustainability to develop as true laboratories and practical scenarios that contribute to the conservation of sustainable reserves of the planet’s biosphere. Thus, environmental actions in local areas can make a huge contribution to improving the condition of the planet as a whole, helping to achieve, gradually and step by step, the so fervently-desired goal of sustainable development on Earth. scale spatial planning strategy. The work carried out with the La Mancha en Movimento ecotourism group has proved a key driver in the design of criteria and the establishment of appropriate assessment measures, striving at all times to ensure that the local community becomes the instigator of its own development.
