Résumé

The relationship between offshoring activities and innovation performance in knowledge intensive business services (KIBs) firms compared to non-KIBs firms remains an unexplored area of study. Two important results are offered. First, offshoring is an important source of innovation for all firms. Second, the offshoring-innovation relationship differs significantly between the two groups of firms, being more positive for non-KIB firms. Offshoring is an important source of innovation for firms, but particularly for non-KIB firms. Thus, our paper contributes to the topic of offshoring-innovation performance with new insights and results for KIBs. It identifies which firms, KIB or non-KIB firms, are best for transforming offshoring activities in innovative results. Moreover, it helps to uncover simultaneity and causal relationships between product and process innovation, issues which have not previously been considered in the literature of KIBs offshoring.
