Resum

One of the most striking aspects in the study of intonation is that practically every intonation theory assumes the same basis (direct or indirectly): the stress (accent) is marked by a tonal prominence. On the other hand, when experimental discordances are found between the detected tonal prominences and the phonological stresses, these are justified by the influence of the intonation patterns. What we propose in this paper is to analyse the sentence stress by neutralising the intonation variable (by analysing stresses situated in specific intonation patterns) and to discover if the intonation interferes in the realization of the tonal peak (by analysing stresses that are exactly the same in number, order, vowel quality, class word, context, metrical position in the sentence and morphologic position in the word. We have analysed the average of alignment between the tonal peaks and the tonic vowels studied in our corpora differentiating three possible realizations: 1- alignment of the tonal peak detected with its corresponding tonic vowel; 2- prerealization of the tonal peak in the pre-tonic vowel (preshooting) and 3- postrealization of the tonal peak in the post-tonic vowel (overshooting). Our results show a general tendency for the tonal peaks not to be aligned with the tonic vowels. The more frequent alternative has turned to be the realizations with overshooting. The metrical and morphologic position of the stress seems to have influenced the results obtained. The same has happened with the two modalities studied: affirmative and interrogative sentences.
