Abstract
The preliminary results obtained during the patrimonial intervention carried out by the Alicante Provincial Coastal Service at the Torre de les Caletes (Benidorm), damaged because of its location, are presented. The works carried out provided a good opportunity for the recovery of a little-known historical monument: one of the defensive elements that formed part of the Coast Guard in the time of the Habsburgs. Through this intervention, it has been possible to obtain an exceptional set of finds, which include a complete organic register, unusual in nature, preserved in a sealed context. In this way, the Torre de les Caletes in Benidorm becomes a unicum, which helps to approach and reconstruct aspects of the daily life of the people in charge of coastal surveillance against privateering incursions, at a time when the sea passes by be the new frontier of the kingdom.
