Abstract

The right to food is closely linked to plant genetic resources. These have great value for humanity because they provide the genetic material that serves as the basis for developing new plant varieties and, therefore, have a fundamental impact on human nutrition. Thus, to safeguard this general interest, a legal regime is necessary that encourages both the conservation and adequate protection of these resources and the development of new plant varieties.
