Abstract
Drawing on affect theory and gender criticism, this article explores the mother-daughter-mother bond. More specifically, it examines affect in relation to becoming a mother and to losing the mother. On the one hand, through the poems Ameba (2020) by Anna Gual and Felizidad (2020) by Olga Novo, I analyse the construction of love, identification and genealogical roots in the poems that both authors write during the gestation process. On the other hand, I focus on the collection La mort de la mare em va fer més lliure (2016), by Mari Luz Esteban and I Déu en algun lloc (2017), by Sònia Moll, which speak of the absence of the mother, the sadness and the desire to move forward, away from the mother’s shadow.
