Resumen

The term transcultural has been applied to nursing very often in the last times. Due to the different understandings that are given, it could lead to mistakes. In fact, it is not even included in the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language Dictionary. Anyway, those works made by transcultural nurses don't seem to be so different to those made by other researchers coming from other fields. However, it can be stated that the medical corporativism has absorbed knowledges from other people all along the history and nowadays. From Foucault's point of view, this can be interpreted as an attempt to take possession of such a knowledge and as a consequence, with the power of the field of the Health Sciences. As a matter of fact, it can be easily seen its influence in health policies, health structures and health education. From this perspective, the function of Transcultural Nursing is more corporativistic than epistemological. It allows nurses to have their own voice, in order to run away from the limits of power/ knowledge established by the medical corporativism along the history in the health-illness field.
