Abstract
Tbe present paper deals with the main economic trends oj the eighteenth century and their applications to Spain during the reign of Charles III. Following prímarily Adam Smith's economic theory and Campomanes' precise knowledge of the situation, Alexander ]ardine carríes out a precise analysis of the greatest problems and Josters sorne of their possible solutions. They include the abolition of monopolies and prívileges, the necessary agrarian reform, the reduction of taxes and the establishment of "laissez faire" on all commercial relations.
