Résumé

Background: The audiovisual media are very useful didactic and informative resources. The short film “Alimentarse mejor” [Eating better] produced in 1972 is an example of education and communication strategy in food and nutrition. The objective is to analyze the informative practices used. Methods: After locating a copy in the Spanish Film Library, an analysis was conducted of the information contained and how this was communicated, as well as the variables related to the genre and the resources and technical language employed. Results and discussion: Along with the characteristics and objectives of the EDALNU Programme, in this short film, the main food problems that affected the Spanish population and how to address them, were presented. It depicts the food challenges entailed in the Spanish population’s food and nutrition transition in the early 1970s, and transmits many of the conceptual and methodological premises that guided the implementation of food and education policies in developmentalist Spain Conclusions: The results obtained underline the importance of the documentary genre as an effective communication tool in the field of food and nutrition, its role as a teaching resource and the value of promoting its use in the field of the new technologies.
