Abstract

The outbreak of the Great War led to the involvement of whole nations in the conflict, resulting in the populations becoming permanent military objectives for the protagonists. With the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War this process was maintained but with huge increases in the number of victims, one of the reasons being the improvements in strategic bombings. In this case, we aim to investigate the air strikes car-ried out by the republicans against the enemy rearguard, analysing their plans and the way they were carried out. This way, we will discover why the Republican Aviation bombed cities behind the front line and the consequences arising from those actions.
