Resumen
Investments in water supply systems for agricultural, industrial and urban supply use are justified based on the positive impact on economic growth and employment generation. The coastline of the province of Alicante, also called Costa Blanca, is an area of shortage of renewable water resources has undergone profound economic, demographic, social and landscape transformation in the second half of the twentieth century to the present. The possibilities and development conditions of the coastal zone are linked to the management and use of water in a highly competitive and specialized, as an important source of income agriculture and tourism as one of its development strategies. The new economic orientation involved increasing the availability of water resources to ensure the enhancement of the territory. Competition from both activities with the use of soil and water has resulted in the decline in agricultural demand with rising urban. The problem is that, given the structure of water consumption and growth rates of its application, in relative terms, the existing supply and insufficient.
