Zusammenfassung

We aim to review the Grand Tour phenomenon, understanding this long journey as an experience related to the awakening of the anthropological interest in Europe. This social event, that was first connected with an academic itinerary and later spread to non academical areas, could be considered as an antecedent of the long-distance journeys with cultural interests. In this context, “cultural” is related to the view of an anthropological analysis: the complex structure that conforms a particular society. Once we present the general view of this Grand Tour, we offer two examples that help to understand this cultural phenomenon: Bernardo Olives de Bernal Grand Tour from his hometown in Menorca (Spain) and the long journey, although not an actual Grand Tour, performed by the Marquees of Vélez in order to confirm his new possessions in the south of Spain.
