Résumé

Video games are one of the most widespread alternative entertainment for children and adolescents, raising concerns among adults. This work describes a study which involved 316 children aged between 10 and 12 years in three locations in the province of Alicante. It has analyzed the difference in video game habits on the basis of gender and course as well as the existence of any relationship between performance and the child’s behavior at school and their gaming habits. The results show gender-related differences: boys feel more attracted to video games than girls. On the other hand, a significant negative correlation of low intensity between the attraction of video games and academic performance, not occurring in all areas. Finally, significant differences have also emerged, although low, between the type of game that is played and behavior in school.
