Resumen
The use of web-based applications as tools for learning purposes has been successfully implemented in different subjects related to the Urban Studies and Regional Planning Area of the University of Alicante. The supervised inclusion of these web resources to the course programs has facilitated the interaction between students and lecturers in a very effective manner. The content covered throughout the Architecture degree learning pathway is organized thematically as follows: urban studies, public spaces, urban residential development, landscape, urban design and lastly, land management and territorial planning. Altogether, these subjects represent a multi-scale approach which, combined with a series of social data preferences -for example, from citizens or visitors- obtained from social networking services, provide a link between the classroom context and the real world -that of the urban environment itself- through a virtual world. In addition, a teaching-learning method has been designed by introducing web applications in order to improve the virtual and simultaneous collaborative work experience as a complementary strategy to the traditional teaching system.
