Abstract

This study presents a questionnaire to assess the strengths of each student associated with the theory of Multiple Intelligences by Howard Gardner. The instrument, composed of 8 scales representing the 8 intelligences, was applied to a sample of 177 school pupils and 11 teachers of 4th, 5th and 6th grade of elementary public schools at the province of Alicante. In the questionnaire, the individual rated on a Likert scale from 1 (I do not like anything) to 5 (I really like it or I am very skilled) the confidence that he or she had to perform each task of each item. The results of the investigation show high reliability and validity of the developed instrument and there is a correlation between the results of the evaluation made by the students and teachers results. In conclusion, this is an useful instrument for the assessment of multiple intelligences in elementary school, which can serve as starting point for designing teaching methods on the Gardner’s theory which shows positive results on academic performance.
