Resum
Nowadays, language teaching is inextricably linked to technology. Among the key competences of foreign and second language teachers, we can find the digital competence, according to Instituto Cervantes (2012). Technology has been present in language teaching for the last half century; however, the last decades have turned into a tech revolution, as we can see by the huge amount of publications on education, language teaching and technology recently produced. In this context, our work explores the potential of social media for the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language through Sports. In the frame of a research project on Spanish and Sports, our paper focuses on the possibilities of Facebook and Twitter in the Spanish language classroom, keeping in mind the most recent advances in the use of educational technology for language teaching. 20 social media Sport profiles have been selected for the project (15 Spanish sportmen and women and 5 Sport journals), in order to incorporate them into different teaching activities to explore the educational potential of social media for the teaching of Spanish through Sports.
