Zusammenfassung
Objectives: An increasing number of midwifes recommend hypopressive exercise (HE) as an alternative exercise therapy for pelvic floor rehabilitation in the post-natal period. The aim of this study was describe the effects of a therapy protocol based on HE for multiparous women with symptoms of urinary incontinence (UI). Methodology: Was realized a descriptive clinical series at the rehabilitation unit of Tolcayuca (México). The participants of the study were 6 premenopausal, multiparous women who presented complaints of UI [M=40.33(11.76) yr] and trained under qualified and supervised instruction for 7 weeks. The three first weeks 8 exercises were performed once per week during 10 minutes. The last four weeks was performed the same exercise twice per week. The session time increased from 15 to 20 minutes every two weeks. Were assesed before and after the intervention the symptoms and severity grade of UI with the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF). This questionnaire assesses the frequency, quantity and affectation of urinary leakage. Results: The index of UI decreased in all patients at the end of the study. The severity of UI diminished in 5 of the 6 cases. Two patients presented a complete remission of UI symptoms. Conclusions: These preliminary results show that a supervised protocol of HE could improve the UI index and severity grade of multiparous women with symptoms of UI.
