Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has produced a global biopolitical scenario and a drift from official speeches (Brazil, United States, France) towards patriotic and nationalist versions supported by a language of war. The social construction of the “foreign virus” as a foreign agent has produced a sociological paradox: when faced with a global problem, a pandemic that affects all the countries of the world, the responses tend to build emergency nationalisms, whose function is to prop up a collective mentality resistance as an anthropological resource at different scales, whose ultimate objective is to exonerate governments from health responsibilities.
