Abstract

The purpose of this work is to determine the scientific production of breastfeeding by means of a sample of articles published in Spanish health journals between 1980 and 2015, selected from the Cuiden Citation 2015 and Google Scholar Metrics databases; a bibliometric analysis through indicators of productivity, collaboration and obsolescence. We have analyzed 113 articles, identifying 387 authors with a productivity index greater than 0 and less than 1, an average of 3.6 authors per article. The most productive author was Pallás Alonso, C.R. while the most prolific institutions were Hospital Clínico Universitario Lozano Blesa, Universitario 12 de Octubre and University of Zaragoza. Nineteen ninety-eight was the most productive year. Of all the articles analyzed, descriptive methodology predominated with an international collaboration of 2%. It is considered necessary to increase international collaboration between institutions, and also increase the number of studies of analytical or intervention methodology.
