Resumen

The subject Nutrition Education is taught in the 4th year of the Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics in the University of Alicante since the academic year 2013-2014, when it is incorporated as a novel subject to the curriculum of this Degree (in the previous Degree did not take). It aims to offer the student a theoretical and practical vision on issues related to food and nutrition education, which will enable them to acquire knowledge, but also develop attitudes, critical judgments about the suggested food proposals and encourage those behaviors that may favor health and mantaining them over the time. Likewise, it aims to offer students the opportunity to design food education activities and put them into practice. Among its formative objectives, and related to the theme of this communication, are those of knowing, designing and applying the most appropriate didactic resources for the purposes of nutritional education, as well as recognizing the possibilities of working with the media for dissemination of education nutrition messages that contribute to an improvement in the population’s diet. To achieve these objectives, theoretical classes are combined with 10 theoretical-practical seminars, which include one dedicated to the elaboration of a new brief on the radio. To do this, students should read the book “Healthy eating: radio as a mean of food education”, focused on promoting the active participation of health professionals in food education strategies through radio, providing skills to develope and communicate educational messages on the radio by means of the news brief and offering a varied, dynamic and topical thematic relating to food, nutrition and health that motivate listeners in the acquisition of healthy eating habits. This manual provides them with methodology to be followed, it gives advice on how to communicate on the radio, how to design educational strategies, how to design information, and it gives examples of how to inform/communicate about daily feeding, using the radio. Moreover, students should prepare and record the news brief, which has a maximum duration of two minutes and addresses interesting topics about food and nutrition for the generalpopulation. News brief are listened by the professors of the subject and by an expert in scientific communication with widely expirence in the radio field. Those news brief that meet the necessary quality requirements, are recorded on the University of Alicante radio and broadcast on the radio program “Ciencias para normales”. During the academic years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 students have developed a total of 92 news brief, of wich have recorded and broadcast 45. Among the most distinguished topics are “Myths about food”, “Diets miracle”, “Superfoods” and “Food in fashion”. This activity allows students to acquire an active attitud in their own learning process and develop communicative skills thanks to their recording and implementation. In addition, it encourages them to develop health and scientific dissemination activities in their future professional career.
