Zusammenfassung
31 consecutive cases of anisometropic myopic patients affected of cataracts in one or both eyes with a difference ofaxiallenght between them bigger than 2 mm., has been studing to ascertain the hypothesis that myopia predisposes the eye to cataract development. It has been carried out a determination of the evolutive condition of the opacity in both lenses by means of a cuantitative method of the degree of opacity, and relating this with different parameters: age, sex, axial lenght and profundity of the anterior chamber. Bivariant statistics were applied for the analisis of the data. It was proved the presence of a cataract of a bigger density and more precocious development in the more myopic eye with an high level of statistical significance (p < 0,01). However no siqnficant correlation was found between cataract development and axial lenght of the eye (p>0,05). The results of the present study prove that high myopia is a potential biological model for cataratogenesis, although it is necessary to prove wich are the factors principally involved in it.
