Resumen

The authors report the results obtained in 100 consecutive cases of cataract patients implanted with open-Ioop semiflexible anterior chamber lenses by the same surgeon. According with the results obtained six months to one year following surgery, 70% of cases showed a visual acuity of at least 5/10 and 33% superior to 8/10. No cases of corneal endothelial decompensation of chronically elevated I.O.P. were observed in this serie. The most frequent and serious cornplication was pseudophakic macular edema, which was clinically evident in 20% of cases. 2% the patients showed permanent visual impairment due to chronic macular edema. At this regard, no statistically significant differences were observed between EICC versus EEC cases implanted with such types of I.O.L Corneal astigmatism was statistically less evident (p < 0,05) in 10/0 Nylon-sutured cases than in 9/0 silk-sutured cases.
