Abstract

An study is presented regarding the effect that several non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). Where topically applied in a experimental animal model of corneal alkali burn. The efficacy that such treatment has on the evolutions of the alkali burn corneal ulcers is valuated by means of computer assisted and planimetry. It is showed that indomethacin 1 % and diclofenac 0.1 % had a positive influence on the evolution of the corneal ulcers (P 0.001 and 0.05 for each of then). Such effect was not evident for flurbiprofen 0.03% although this drug was used in much lower concentrations in regard with the others drugs. The results of this study show a potential of therapeutic effect of this drugs in corneal alkali burns, being necessary futures studies to ascertain the mechanism of action and indications of NSAID in such cases.
