Resumo

To ascertain the capacity of the Public Health Services to attend the neccesities of ophthalmic preventive medicine, we have developed a new criterio to cuantify such subject, which we called «overburden index». This consists in the numeric cuantification of the clinical assistance which is neccesary to do to accomplish with early detection of any preventable ophthalmic disease. We have applied such concept to a representative Unit of primary ophthalmic assistance of our enviroment, obtaining an overburden index of 63% for early detection of chronic open angle Glaucoma.
